This songbook is a "work in progress" which will take a while to compile... thanks for your patience! If anyone has an old songbook, please let me know. The one I have is from the 1979 reunion and I think it's lacking quite a few songs.

CIRCLE SONG (1966)

                                        ΘΦ

Theta Phi Circle Song ~ Spring, 1966
THETA PHI IS SINGING TO YOU
Tune: Feed the Birds (from Mary Poppins)
Words by Nina Friedman ~ songleader ’65 – ‘66

As the sun in the west is deserting the sky,
Our memories before us appear.
We recall all the fun and the happiness too,
And the sisters we all hold so dear…

We hope as the years pass the memories remain,
And that most of them never fade.
We’ll think of our time here at dear NPC -
Especially the friendships we’ve made…

Theta Phi is singing to you –
Listen, Listen we’re singing to you.
Hear us now, we say with a sigh…
Very best wishes from our Theta Phi.

To dear Arethusa we leave you an emerald,
A gem that will last for years.
And to Clio sisters we leave golden raindrops,
And the yellow sun when it appears.

Ago girls, so sweet and so true,
We leave you a beautiful sea of light blue.
And to Greek men, we say with a sigh,
Very best wishes from our Theta Phi.

Theta Phi is singing to you –
Listen, Listen we’re singing to you.
Hear us now, as we say good-bye,
Very best wishes from our Theta Phi.

So all those old memories are coming back reading the songs--and even I who can't carry a tune remember all of us Thetas singing them--where is the song about the "apple tree"??

BLUES

Written in 1936 by Dottie Schemerhorn, this song was first sung at a Milk Fund Dance as the "New Paltz Blues." Sister Schemerhorn later adopted it for Theta Phi.

Oh, they want to keep me right,
They want to keep me keen,
They lock me up tight like an old sardine.
Oh, say listen fella, I'm lower than the cellar,
I've got those Theta Phi Blues.

Oh, I know I'm fit and able to wear mink and sable,
I want to be like Bardot,
But they make me stay a snobb-o,
Oh, say listen mister, I'm singing this justa--
Let you know that I've got those Theta Phi Blues.

Here I'm young and healthy, without a thing to ail me,
Yet all the boyfriends fail me.
'Cause at ten o'clock they jail me.

Oh, I know it ain't no use.
To try to break loose,
If a gal's to be a teacher, then no real he-man can reach her,
That's why I've got--I've got those Theta Phi Blues.

CIRCLE SONG (1964)

Tune: More
Words By: Barbara Maiorano and Shelli Saslaw

Now, as the setting sun deserts the sky,
Voices united sing of Theta Phi.
Praising the sisterhood we hold so dear
Mem'ries of pleasant days we've all spent here.

Years will soon pass us by
And, then, we must say good-bye
To New Paltz and sisters, too,
But mem'ries will not fade from view.

Longer than always is a long, long time.
But, for eternity we'll keep in mind
New Paltz and Theta Phi--two loves which will never die
For this we will sing forever more.

FAREWELL SONG

Tune: Smile Awhile

We, the Thetas from upon the hill,
Bid a fond farewell to each of you.
Evening fades and shadows fall,
Yet in our hearts we'll treasure all
The fun we've had tonight with each of you.
Hope you all have had a good time, too.
Welcome you will always be
At our dear Theta Phi.

FRIENDS

Friends, friends, friends, we will always be.
Whether in fair or in dark stormy weather,
We Theta Phis are always together.
Fore we are true, Theta Phi to you.
Love will pervade ustill death separates us.
We're friends, friends, friends.

LONG, LONG LINE

Tune: Long, Long Trail

There's a long, long line of Thetas,
A-comin' down through the years.
Bright eyes with youthful vision,
Still unknown to fears.
W're within that line of marching,
Sister to sister never part--
We'll hold high the name of Theta,
Through the years within our hearts.
